Cloud Couch was born from a simple frustration: why does furniture that looks beautiful in a showroom always seem to fall apart the moment real life begins? We set out to change that.
A living room moment that changed everything.
In 2021, our founder Marcus Cole was redecorating his apartment in Austin, Texas. After months of searching, he found a sofa that looked exactly right — sculptural, plush, the kind of piece that anchors a room. Six months later, the cushions had flattened, a seam had split, and the frame creaked with every sit.
He started asking why. Why did premium-looking furniture feel so disposable? Why was there such a wide gap between the promise and the reality? The deeper he dug, the more he realized the problem wasn't taste — it was standards. Most furniture brands competed on appearance, not on what happened after the sofa lived in your home for two years.
Marcus spent the next year traveling — visiting craftsmen in North Carolina, fabric mills in Belgium, and upholstery workshops in Portugal — learning what durable, beautiful furniture actually required. Cloud Couch launched in early 2023 with one product, one obsession, and one promise: furniture that gets better with time.
One sofa. Built without compromise.
The Cloud Couch started as a single sketch — a modular sofa with the silhouette of something sculptural, the density of something serious, and the versatility to adapt to any space. Every detail was deliberately chosen and tested over 18 months of prototyping before a single piece left the workshop.
The frame is built from FSC-certified solid oak and kiln-dried hardwood — the same materials used by makers who build furniture meant to be passed down. The cushions combine high-density memory foam with a hand-wrapped down finish, striking the balance between support and that signature cloud-like softness. Every fabric — our Velvet, Linen, and Boucle — is tested for pilling, fading, and durability well beyond industry standards.
The result is a sofa that doesn't just look right. It feels right. And it keeps feeling right for years.

Cloud Couch is now in over 12,000 homes across the United States. We've resisted the urge to expand our product line too quickly — because we believe doing one thing extraordinarily well is harder, and more valuable, than doing many things adequately.
We're still a small team. We still read every review. We still photograph every material swatch ourselves. And we still measure success the same way we did on day one: by whether the people who trusted us with their living rooms are glad they did.
